Please note the Zoo is closed, it will be open in 2027. At the moment Thanyaburi Mini zoo is open in the area

It is the oldest zoo of Thailand, built by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as his private garden adjacent to the royal palace. After the King's passing, the garden was left unattended for years. In 1938, the revolutionary government asked King Rama VIII's regency to give this park to Bangkok City Municipality to be open as a public zoo. The King himself kindly bestowed deers and a number of other animals from the palace for public exhibition. The City of Bangkok operated the zoo until 1954. Since then it has been transferred to the state Zoological Park Organization, which also operates Khao Khiao Open Zoo, Chiang Mai Zoo, Songkhla Zoo, and Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo. In 2018 the zoo was closed to move from the Bankok Dusit district to Pathum Thani

Open: partly as Thanyaburi Mini zoo, the real zoo will open in 2027

For kids there is a petting area

Dusit Zoo was originally a botanical garden called "Khao Din Wana”. King Rama V, during his foreign country visits became impressed of botanical gardens as a place for entertainment and relaxation of people, and so His Majesty advised that a botanical garden should be established in Thailand. In 1895, His Majesty gave royal permission for the garden to be built on land east of Premprachakorn canal, across from Chitrlada Palace. A large lake was dug up with connecting canals and roads, dirt excavated from the digging was piled into a mountain in the middle of the garden, hence the name "Khao Din” which means earth mountain. Various trees were planted and called "Wana” which means forest. And so the whole area was called "Khao Din Wana”. At first the garden was part of the palace compound and used for the private enjoyment of the royal family and palace staff. Later during King Rama VII's reign, His Majesty advised that this garden should be expanded and improved for the enjoyment of the general public. After Thailand changed from and absolute into a constitutional monarchy in 1932, Prime Minister P. Piboonsongkram asked royal permission of King Rama VIII, passed into law the designation of the areas of "Khao Din Wana”, "Sanam Sua Pa” and "Suan Umporn” into a public park. The Bangkok municipality then transferred Axis Deer and various animals from Suan Umporn, plus crocodiles and monkeys from Suan Saranrom into the zoo. A request was also made for royal elephants from the palace to be shown at the zoo on Sundays. After all the renovations were finished, the zoo was open to the public on March 18th, 1938 and henceforth officially called "Dusit Zoo”.

In August 2018, the Zoological Park Organization announced that the zoo will close and relocate to the new ground in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province. After the announcement, the zoo extended the opening hours to visit until 31 September 2018. IOn 18th February 2022 the Thai government allocated  1.1 billion THB (31.7 million US$) for the new zoo. Planed opening is in 2027. Meanwhile since 13th march visitors can visit Thanyaburi Mini zoo near the new zoo
I don't have any guides of this zoo. Does any body know if they made any guides? And where I can get them?

In the years 1963, 1988 and 2013 they had their anniversarry's. Have they made any books on this occassion?
